Lead us not into temptation: On translating the Lord’s Prayer

The Rev Canon Prof Michael Hull, Principal of the Scottish Episcopal Institute, will deliver the Pantonian Professor of Divinity Lecture 2024 on St Ternan’s Day, Wednesday 12 June 2024, at 5pm in St Vincent’s Chapel, 13 St Vincent Street, Edinburgh EH3 6SW.

In ‘Lead us not into temptation: On translating the Lord’s Prayer’, Prof Hull will expose temptations to distort Holy Scripture in translation and will claim the literal sense as the sine qua non for authentic translation with reference to the Lord’s Prayer, especially Matthew 6.13 and Luke 11.4.

The Lecture is at 5pm in the Chapel (doors open at 4.30) and followed by light refreshments in the Refectory. The Lecture is free and open to the public. There is an accessible toilet and a hearing loop. The Lecture will be video recorded and available online afterwards. For more information, contact Prof Hull at principal@scotland.anglican.org.
